Description

Dicynodon.

One of the most perfect specimens ever found, housed at the Old Library Museum, Graaff-Reinet.

Showing a single pair of tusks and tooth-less, sharp-edged margins to jaws which carried a tortoise like beak in life.

This specimen is contrasted with Oudenodon and Diictodon in Clewer’s 1977 paper (part of the Lex Bremner Fossil Collection) Upper Permian.

Mountain tortoise skull, horny beak still in place.
